Cable Tension Monitoring

Ain Dubai is the world’s largest Ferris wheel. StructureIQ’s smart wireless sensors have been used to continuously monitor its 192 cables.

Construction and operation of large physical structures can be challenging and risk-prone. StructureIQ’s sensors continuously analyze the condition of load-bearing cables by estimating their tension. Cable tension monitoring is applicable to several types of bridges, Ferris wheels, cellular towers, and power lines. The technology provides:

  • Capability to measure wind- or environment-induced cable vibration
  • Computing mode shapes and cable tension force
  • On-demand (e.g., while tensioning during construction) and periodic monitoring

StructureIQ’s technology was deployed to ensure the safety of Ain Dubai, the world’s tallest observation wheel, during both construction and operation phases.
